I have to admit, when I first read Chris Brogan’s post entitled “50 Online Applications and Sites to Consider,” I began to feel extremely overwhelmed.  I am embarrassed to say that I have heard of about 12 of the 50 and used only about 6.  I was introduced to most of these, of course, from my public relations teacher- Dr. V. (She definitely knows her stuff when it comes to online tools).  After reviewing the list several times, I decided to explore and see what some of them were about.  After playing around for a while, I fell in love with 3 online applications that I didn’t know much about:

1. Mixx— The quote on the home page says it all, “Your link to the web content that really matters.”  Here, you can catch up on the latest news about really, anything.  It has entertainment, sports, health, science, photos, most popular, and the list goes on.

2. Yelp–You can find reviews for just about anything. I typed in my hometown and looked up reviews for restaurants.  It was interesting to see what I found.  Thank goodness my favorite dessert/coffee place in downtown Greenville got good reviews-whew!

3. StumbleUpon— “The best way to discover the things you like on the web.” This is a social bookmarking tool that I began to enjoy.  I joined it and began browsing about things that I am interested in. I never knew there were so many things out there that I would actually enjoy reading and be able to relate to…all in one place and easy to access.

Even though I was overwhelmed at first, I really enjoyed playing around with a few of the online tools. Thanks to Chris Brogan!
